Schaeffler, a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking an Engineer – Materials Engineering for our Wooster, OH location. This role is responsible to explore, assess, and pre-qualify Solid-State Electrolyte battery cell , such as electrodes and electrolytes.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Perform analytical modeling design and computer testing simulation of battery cells
  • Screen, test, and analyze performance and quality metrics of sample materials made in lab or provided by vendors
  • Design experiments for evaluation performance of new materials being tested for Li-ion cell applications
  • Develop advanced characterization techniques and maintain equipment for both testing material properties as well as battery performance
  • Collaborate with other groups to create step-change improvements on Li-ion cell technology
  • Develop physical models to predict the performance, life degradation, and safety-related properties of cell
  • Evaluate the use of batteries under extreme operating conditions based on test data
  • Expected to adhere to the core hours of 9AM – 4PM while maintaining the minimum of 40 hours per week

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in material science engineering or related field
  • Advanced material science and engineering knowledge
  • Understanding of the chemistry and physics of lithium-ion battery components such as cathode, anode, and electrolyte 
  • Knowledge of modeling techniques used in lithium-ion batteries
  • Hands-on experience with characterization techniques such as microscopy and spectroscopy
  • Minimum two years experience in chemistry/physics laboratory
  • Ability to prepare new work instructions
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Excellent communication ability (written & verbal)
  • Extremely self-motivated and driven to achieve results
