We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Development Scientist to join our Chip Development team. T his exciting and challenging role will be responsible for the development of microfluidic and MEMs components in sequencing flowcells in Oxford Nanopore’s products.

The Details

Reporting to the Director of Chip Development, the successful candidate will be involved in activities throughout the development lifecycle:

  • Design, fabrication, characterisation and verification of MEMs and microfluidic components of sequencing flowcells.
  • Building and analysing lab scale prototypes.
  • Defining requirements and working with outsource vendors to optimise designs compatible with their manufacturing process.
  • Developing component specifications, methods for test / inspection and inspection standards.
  • Building, testing and analysing data from lab scale prototypes.
  • Supporting transfer to production.
  • Interaction with a variety of outsource vendors, including generating requirements, design specifications and technical documents.
  • Supporting production and liaising with mass production manufacturing partners.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will likely have a 2:1 degree or higher in Physics, Engineering or a Physical Science.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of organisation are essential for this role.

Previous experience of one or more of microfluidics, MEMs fabrication, volume manufacture, rapid prototyping and outsourcing are desirable for this role.
