Job Description

Haag-Streit Simulation is a pioneer in the development of virtual reality simulators for medical training. Ophthalmologists and medical students worldwide train their diagnostic and surgical skills on high-end simulators from Haag-Streit Simulation – without stress or risk to a patient. The company is part of the Swiss Haag-Streit Group. Today, around 75 employees work at the company’s site in Mannheim.

To strengthen our development department we are looking for a

Physicist/Mathematician (f/m/d)

Areas of responsibility

  • Development of interactive real-time simulations of soft tissues and fluids for training surgical procedures.
  • Creation and enhancement of models and algorithms
  • Optimization in collaboration with surgeons
  • Further tasks in the development of VR simulators, e.g. in the field of optical training systems, haptic input devices or VR displays


  • Completed university studies in physics or mathematics
  • Very good understanding of classical physics (mechanics, elasticity theory, optional: optics)
  • Excellent programming skills in C++
  • Very good knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Confident application of modern programming concepts, e.g. design patterns, templates
  • Knowledge of physical modeling, simulation, numerics or computer vision is an advantage
  • Goal-oriented approach to solving problems
  • Enjoy working in a team and have very good communication skills, also in interdisciplinary dialogue
