Cambridge Quantum Computing

Cambridge Quantum (CQ) is a global leader in quantum computing. Our software helps our partners, collaborators, and clients to solve the most difficult problems in their industries through quantum computing. Our focus is in the areas of quantum chemistry, quantum machine learning, quantum algorithms and quantum encryption.

We are recruiting a research scientist to work in our quantum algorithms team, which is growing rapidly. This role is based at our new office in Cambridge and you will be working within a team of leading scientists.
The successful candidate will have a desire to research and develop quantum algorithms, such as quantum amplitude estimation and quantum walk, to be capable of being run on near-term, noisy quantum hardware. This will require an ability to approach old problems in new ways, and propose novel solutions that will reduce resource requirements in practice.
Candidates should have expertise in at least several of the following ‘required skills’, and a proven aptitude for learning to show that they will be able to quickly pick-up any that they aren’t already familiar with.

Required skills:

  • Quantum algorithms — especially Grover’s algorithm and quantum amplitude estimation
  • Statistics and data-handling — especially Bayesian inference and parameter estimation
  • Engineering mathematics (Fourier series, linear algebra, basic signal processing etc.)
  • Numerical simulations
  • Optimisation and optimal experimental design

Academic qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in maths, theoretical physics, computer science or a data-science related discipline is required, and candidates should have a demonstrated track-record of scientific publication.

In June 2021, CQ announced a merger with Honeywell Quantum Solutions (HQS), a Honeywell business unit and maker of the highest performing quantum computer currently available. Honeywell has been an investor in and commercial partner with Cambridge Quantum since 2019. The deal is intended to close in Q4 this calendar year and is subject to the satisfaction of certain regulatory approvals, and other customary closing conditions.
